Altar Servers
Kathy Skinner - 777-8908 - kathy.skinner@ctk.org

altar serversAn altar server assists the presider at Mass, most importantly with the opening and closing prayers, the lavabo (washing of hands), lighting and carrying candles, and stewardship of the wine and water at Mass. In the ninth century, young boys were given some of the duties of acolytes, one of the minor ministries (perhaps explaining the confusion in terms), and these responsibilities were extended to girls in 1983. This ministry is open to those who have reached their tenth birthday or are older; there is no upper age limit. Training is ongoing, so please contact Kathy Skinner if you or your child is interested. Please use the following link for the current altar server assignments:

Lectors/Eucharistic Ministers/Sacristans
Lucia Huskey -lucia.huskey@ctk.org

Our liturgy is greatly enriched by the participation of lectors, Eucharistic ministers, acolytes and altar servers, who bring their special gifts to Catholic worship. Here is a brief description of each.

Lectors
A lector, or reader, assists by proclaiming the first and second readings from Sacred Scripture. Lectors may also provide the responsorial psalm, in the absence of a cantor. It is regarded as a ministry, that is, a public service provided by members of the faith community, the Body of Christ on earth.

Eucharistic Ministers/Sacristans
As extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, individuals assist in the distribution of Holy Communion, handle duties in the sacristy (both before and after Masses) and they also make the Blessed Sacrament available to those unable to attend Mass.

If you are interested in serving in one of these ministries, please contact the parish office at 615 292-2884. Your contact information will be forwarded to those who are involved in training and scheduling.

Mass Greeters / Hospitality
Susan Casey - ttc315@bellsouth.net

Mass GreetersThe Mass Greeter Ministry at Christ the King Church provides a welcoming presence to parishioners and guests at each Mass and at special liturgies. A Mass Greeter team serves at each Mass - the 4:30 pm Saturday Vigil Mass, the 8:30am Sunday Mass, and the 11:00am Sunday Mass. Greeters serve on a rotational schedule and are assigned at each entrance of the Church. Mass Greeters distribute the liturgy aide and parish bulletins, facilitate inquiries, and offer a spirit of community. An additional Mass Greeter is scheduled as a substitute and is responsible for collecting and organizing the liturgy aides at each entrance after Mass.

The MG team offers a wonderful opportunity to serve and participate in a parish ministry with a limited time commitment. New team members are needed for all Masses. Individual parishioners, families, and couples are encouraged to join.

Music & Liturgy
Lucia Huskey - lucia.huskey@ctk.org

musicThe Liturgy and Music at Christ the King offers parishioners an opportunity to worship the Lord and strengthen their faith. The music, readings and homilies surround the readings of the day and bring the message of God’s love to all who attend. We always welcome talented new singers and instrumentalists interested in sharing their musical gifts. Routinely, Christ the King will host ensembles of strings, woodwinds or brass for various liturgies. Our musical celebration of the liturgical year is built around a basic collection of choral music that lends itself to congregational singing. The ministry of the pastoral musician is geared towards reaching out to the hearts and minds of the parishioners and encouraging active participation within the Mass, bringing the liturgy to life.

Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
Kathy Skinner - 777-8908 - kathy.skinner@ctk.org

Children's Liturgy of the Word is a way for us to allow children, ages 5-11, to hear the Sunday readings and a reflection that is adapted to their developmental level. At the end of the introductory rite, the presider calls forward those children wishing to participate. They gather at the front of the church with their adult and two teen leaders to hear a message from the presider before they are dismissed to their area for the celebration of the Word. The children return to their parents in the pews during the offertory song so that they are with us during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Adults and teens are always needed to serve as leaders for this ministry. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, please contact Kathy Skinner in the parish office.
