The Eucharist (Mass) is the central worship of the Catholic community and includes prayers, Scripture readings, a homily, and partial reenactment of the farewell supper of Jesus.
Christ is present in the community that gathers, in the Scriptures proclaimed, in the priest presiding, and in the bread and wine that are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
"The Eucharist is God's fundamental gift to the church—as a body and in each of its members—whereby we come to know ourselves…as sharing in the very life and mission of Christ Jesus and his Spirit."
—Bruce Morrill, SJ, Encountering Christ in the Eucharist.
